Week 5
It has been another busy week in Year 5 with lots happening. We have been celebrating Children’s Mental Health week that Mrs Carpineta introduced to us during our Monday Assembly. Today we spent an afternoon with Year 1 and had great fun sharing news and creating positive posters and everyone looked very smart as they dressed in their own clothes to celebrate ‘Being Me!’.
We’ve also started our Art unit this week by exploring retro-futuristic art from the 1950s and 1960s and then recreating space imagery in small boxes in our Art books using viewfinders. We’ve tried a range of styles from sketching to using wax crayons or oil pastels or paints and collage materials. I’ve been so impressed with everyone’s ideas!
In Maths this week, we’ve been identifying equivalent fractions and converting between mixed number fractions and improper fractions. Next week we’ll be comparing and ordering fractions too. In English, we planned and then wrote persuasive letters to Mrs Moseley – ranging from asking for pets to be brought to school to improve children’s mental health and sense of responsibility to suggesting chocolate fountains in school would be good as a treat and incentive to come to school every day. In RE we discussed the importance of Jesus’ miracles, in particular the miracle of the paralysed man and how his friends helped him to see Jesus and be healed.
Many congratulations to our Stars and Writer of the Week. Have a super weekend Take care and stay safe.
Best wishes
Mrs Howard
