Termly Overview
Year 2 Class Trip to the Royal Gunpowder Mills:
Year 2 had a fantastic day on their school trip to the Royal Gunpowder Mills! We stepped back in time and immersed ourselves in the Victorian era, discovering what life was like for children who worked in factories. The children enjoyed exploring the beautiful grounds, taking part in hands-on activities and learning all about schools from the past.
To finish our wonderful day, we enjoyed a delicious ice cream and a lovely walk back to school through the Lea Valley. 🍦🌳

Summer 2:
We have lots of exciting learning planned for our final half term in Year 2. Here are just a few of the exciting things we will be learning about:
In RE, our topic is Dialogue and Encounter. We will explore the Parable of the Good Samaritan and discuss how Jesus teaches us to love and care for others. We will also learn about Judaism, including Jewish beliefs, traditions and the importance of Shabbat within Jewish family and community life.
In English, we will be writing recounts based on Here I Am, where we will focus on retelling events in chronological order and reflecting on our experiences. We will also be exploring narratives through SuperJoe Does NOT Do Cuddles by Michael Catchpool, using the text as inspiration for our own creative writing. In addition, we will study a collection of poems from Belonging Street by Mandy Coe, exploring how poets use language to describe feelings, places and experiences before creating poetry of our own.
In Maths, we will continue developing our understanding of multiplication and division, shape and statistics. We will also focus on solving a range of worded problems, choosing appropriate strategies such as bar models, pictorial representations and formal methods to explain our reasoning and find solutions.
In Science, we will continue our learning about plants and investigate what plants need to survive and grow. As part of our enquiry work, we will grow cress seeds in different materials and conditions, making predictions, observing changes and recording our findings.
In Geography, we will be answering the question, What is it like to live by the coast? We will learn about Weymouth and the Jurassic Coast, identifying physical and human features and exploring why people choose to visit and live in coastal locations. We will also compare coastal environments with our local area.
We are looking forward to a wonderful final half term in Year 2, filled with exciting learning, new experiences and opportunities to celebrate all the progress we have made throughout the year!
