7.3.2025

Another busy week in Year 1.

This week we marked the start of Lent. On Shrove Tuesday we took part in the first ever St Joseph Pancake Race and then enjoyed our own delicious pancakes.

The next day we attended mass to mark Ash Wednesday and received our ashes. We also learnt more about the meaning of Ash Wednesday and wrote our own accounts.

Thursday was World Book Day, which was chock full of reading based activities! We made Purple Prickle Pancakes (more pancakes but who doesn't love a pancake?!) based on the story  of The Gruffalo. We took part in an online reading escape room which we really enjoyed! We also met with Year 5 and shared stories together. Later we had a play session with Reception, which was lots of fun.  I shared one of my favourite stories, 'The Twits' by Roald Dahl, which they really enjoyed and then just before home teachers swapped classes to read to another class so Mrs Skelton came to read to the class.

This week we looked at rhyming words and identifying rhymes in poems and nursery rhymes.

In maths we began using rulers to measure things in centimetres. This was particularly tricky but we all tried so hard and will continue to revisit to deepen our understanding.

Have a wonderful weekend

Mrs Carpineta.
