'I did meet the Queen!'...

As part of Black History Month, Nursery have been learning about the life of Floella Benjamin. We read her story she wrote called 'Coming To England'. It tells the story of Floella as a child growing up in Trinidad and traveling with some of her family to England on the 'Windrush' ship. She talks about her life as a child growing up in England and her amazing life and career she has gone on to have.  Floella Benjamin as a child wondered if she would ever meet the Queen when coming to England - and she did meet the Queen receiving an OBE! We compared pictures of Trinidad and Tobago to England and discussed the food, national flag, the weather and landscape. Floella Benjamin left a hot and sunny Tinidad to arrive in England on a very cold January day. Nursery each had a picture of a suitcase and thought about the clothes you would pack for a hot or a cold journey. We then cut and stuck the pictures onto the suitcase. We also listened and enjoyed calypso music from Trinidad.

In our maths we are learning about 2d shapes and their properties - how many corners and edges they have. Also what shapes can we see in our environment. Nursery were very good as shape detectives! We are continuing with our number counting songs too.

A big well done to our stars of the week : Valentina and Joshua 🤩🤩

Have a lovely weekend,
