A runaway gingerbread and a pancake…

Welcome back! We hope you all had an enjoyable half term break!
We continued our ‘traditional tales’ topic from last term and read a spin on last week’s text, ‘The runaway pancake’. Nursery class compared and contrasted both stories how they were both similar and different. They enjoyed making up their own stories and choosing different characters to be in them.

As part of our Understanding the World curriculum, Nursery had the chance to make their own boats or bridges for their gingerbread to safely cross the river. They used boxes, cardboard, trays, straws all sorts of recycling materials to make them and test them out.
We also made our own ginger playdough each child was given their own piece of dough to roll and explore and used gingerbread shape cutters. We also explored  ginger in its natural form and learnt how it grows. The children preferred the smell of this ginger than the ground ginger.

In R.E we learnt about Shrove Tuesday and it was lovely to listen to all the delicious pancakes the children had eaten over half term. We are now in the time of Lent, we began the start of Lent with an assembly led by our school chaplaincy. Nursery have made their our own Lenten tree as part of our RE display . Over the next few days we will be thinking of our own Lent promises to add to our tree. If you have given up something for Lent please share with us parents and we can add to our Lenten tree.

We continued with our weekly phonics - the children are fantastic at recognising the sounds we have learnt and are really trying hard to write them. We have been practicing our names and letter formation.

In maths we have been subitising which is being able to look at a small amount and know how many without counting. The children are really coming on with their numbers. We also continue with our rhyme and counting songs.

Well done to our stars of the week Esme and Anne-Marie 🤩🤩 and our learner of the Raihaan 🤩

Next week will be book week 📕 we have lots of fun excited things planned. Please remember on Thursday will be book dress up day.

Thank you for your continued support.
