‘Whatever Next …..and a goodbye…

Our traditional tale the children have been reading this week in Nursery is ‘Whatever Next’! Nursery have really enjoyed retelling this tale and acting it out using the puppets and props. This rich story telling language is so important and it is wonderful to hear the children retelling our traditional tales with such great expression and enthusiasm! The story is about a bear and an owl who go to the moon in a cardboard box with a teddy, a picnic and a colinder for a space helmet.

As part of our understanding about the world, we looked at NASA website and a real rocket launch. We listed to Tim Peak and saw what it was like inside the rocket ship and we looked at the moon.

To continue developing our fine motor skills the children have been making with our special moon playdough. They have been very creative! We have been practicing our cutting skills by making our own picnic baskets to take to the moon. It was great to hear the children talking about making a healthy food choice.

As part of our mathematical development this week we have been subitizing to 3 and beyond which the children are getting very good at matching arrays to a number and we have been looking at shape. As part of our phonics phase two we have been listening and matching with the sound 'a. Next week we will explore ‘t’ sound. The children are getting really good at listening and identifying the initial sound. We have also been practicing name writing - Well done Nursery a great effort!

As you might know this week has also been the celebration of the Lunar Chinese New Year, we finished our week by having an assembly and learning all about how this celebration is celebrated. Nursery coloured and made their own snakes to celebrate the year of the snake.

Very sadly we ended our week with a thank you and goodbye assembly to our headteacher Mrs O’Connor.

Nursery made a lovely card made up of all their handprints to make a bunch of flowers. We presented it in assembly. We will miss Mrs O’Connor but we wish her well in her new Trust role.

Have a lovely weekend,

Mrs Vinci and Mrs Direnzo
