Broxbourne travel around the world!

I first posted this back in December but I thought it might be the right time to return to it, now that the busy Christmas time is over.  Even if you are not able to take part in the Broxbourne initiative, (please read below for more detail) then you might still wish to take part in your own way – it can benefit our physical and mental health to get a little more active.  I am trying to myself and will keep you updated on my progress… just in case you are interested…

Last year, one of my challenges for myself was to run more miles than I had during 2019 and I’m proud to say that I beat it by around 70 miles!

I felt great on New Year’s Eve when I checked my RunKeeper app.

If I put all my runs together, I could have run from Waltham Cross to just past Fort William in Scotland…

From there, I might have been able to see the beautiful Ben Nevis – the highest mountain in the United Kingdom.

But the next day I realised I had a long way to go if I was to equal or maybe beat the total for 2020.   I may not manage to beat my total from last year, but I’m going to give it my best shot and see where I go.

Check the Artsmark page  for occasional updates about where Miss Gunn could have run to each week.

If you’d like to keep me posted on how you are getting on with your own fitness, please email arts@stjosephs351.herts.sch.uk

I’d love to hear how you’re getting on.

AROUND THE WORLD CHALLENGE – 40,000 KM

In this time of uncertainty over quarantine and other issues, many of us are travelling much less than we ordinarily would but all is not lost!  Broxbourne is currently challenging us to travel around the world, from the relative safety of our own county.

As well as keeping us fit and active there is a real community spirit behind this project.  To be involved you can make a donation of any kind (to the foodbank, the Air Ambulance, etc.  Many other ways to give are outlined on the website).  This is an opportunity for us all to give a little back to benefit those who need it most in our local community.

Giving Back to Our Community

We’re trying to raise awareness and support for the worthy causes in Broxbourne by inviting you, wherever you are, to help us travel the distance around the world.

All you need to do is get moving!

Walk, run, cycle, row, walk the dog, push the pram, mow the lawn…get creative! Then…

#1. Take a picture or short video of you in action. This will go on the Traveller’s Pinboard.

#2. Along with a screen shot of your results from any tracking app.

#3. Then either post on the Facebook Group or email to FWOEvents@outlook.com

#4. (voluntary) Donate any kind of donation, by clicking on one of the links below, it would be greatly appreciated.

I’m planning to get involved myself and have included a screen shot of my running from last year and this year.  I’m proud to say I’ve run further during 2020, although I definitely have the lockdown partly to thank for the additional distance.  I appreciated being able to get out of the house for exercise….  I use an app called Runkeeper, which is free (for the basic version) and very useful for tracking activity.

I have subscribed to the Air Ambulance’s monthly lottery and will continue donating food to the foodbank.

Please consider taking part in this initiative.  You can benefit yourself and others by taking part.
