Class News, Summer 1, Week 2

Year 6 have all worked so hard this week!  There's been a lot of revision going on both in maths and English.  Then, in between, we've tried to fit in all the other subjects we enjoy.

In English, we've looked at three mark questions on reading papers, especially at questions asking for impressions and evidence from the text - we've thought about looking at the text to find adjective, adjective evidence eg.  What impression do you have of the house?  It is old (adjective) and shabby (adjective) because the text says 'she counted the cracks in the ceiling' (evidence).  Please continue to practise this in your daily reading.  We've also revised different aspects of grammar this week, including the active/passive voice, use of the subjunctive, parenthesis, past and present progressive tenses and the use of apostrophes for contraction or possession.

Maths also has been very busy this week and the children have really worked hard.  From Monday to Thursday we revised different graphs (line, bar and pie charts), multi-step problems and multiplication.  Then today, the children had a maths scavenger hunt outside with 20 reasoning questions to find and answer.  I was impressed with how well they worked together and how well they persevered if they hadn't got a question correct.  Well done, Year 6!

We have also fitted in fitness and cricket in PE, some map work in geography and the beginning of our RE topic, Witnesses.  I hope everyone enjoys the long weekend but keep practising those times tables and spellings and read daily, Year 6!
