Class News - S1 - Week 1

Welcome back and Happy New Year!

I hope that you all enjoyed your Christmas and time off!

We have all jumped straight back into it this week and really focused on our geography unit. We have now finished our water unit and will be moving on next week. This week we have focused on the water cycle, learning new vocabulary such as precipitation, evaporation, and condensation. We also looked at the devastating effects that water can cause, such as the different types of flooding. From this, we looked at water pollution, and we certainly had a shock, so we decided to write a letter to Mr. Rishi Sunak. Our letters told him all about water pollution, the impact it has on wildlife, disasters that have happened in history, and what he and his government need to do about it. I will post some of these next week once they are all official and ready to send off.

We also started our new topic today, "Anglo-Saxons." We learned the importance of taking turns and sharing responsibilities in a group by making royal and peasant bread. We also learned how to measure our own ingredients in mg and ml, which was certainly fun! After all the hard work, it was time to bake and fry! At the end of the day, we had our taste test, and there was a mixed reaction to both breads. Some definitely wouldn’t have lasted if they weren’t royal, while others were quite happy. Either way, we all had great fun, including the teachers!

Our new French unit is all about la date! We started this by learning the days of the week in French. We have sung a song to remember Monday to Friday. Next week, we will add Saturday and Sunday! Please take a look. We have also recapped how to have a conversation in French asking ‘what is your name?’, ‘How old are you?’, ‘how are you feeling?’.
