Week 1

Welcome to Year 5's Class News.

We have had a wonderful and hot start to this new academic year. We have started with creating and choosing our class rules, mission statement, class books, class photo, monitors and much, much more!

We will formally start English and Maths next week. We will start at the very beginning with place value recapping Year 4 and moving on to ten thousand, hundred thousand and millions.

In RE, we have started looking at our class saint, Saint Josephine Bakhita. St .Josephine Margaret Bakhita was a Sudanese Canossian religious sister who lived in Italy for 45 years, after having been a slave in Sudan. In 2000, she was declared a saint, the first Black woman to receive the honour in the modern era. She has been adopted as the patron saint of Sudan. Bakhita is an inspirational individual who we should look up to.

We started our first Spanish lesson yesterday. We learnt how to say hello and good morning. Have a look online with the game and songs that your children can practise at home with you! Get your Spanish on!

We have started our first lesson for History looking at the Terrible Tudors! We looked at paintings of Henry VIII and why the images look so different due to who had pained them. We have also looked at primary and secondary sources and knowing the difference between what they are.

We look forwards to delving into our Maths and English next week.

Have a lovely weekend!
