Class News (21.10.22)

Thank you for a great first half of the Autumn Term Year 5!  You deserve a well-earned rest after all your hard work.  It was a pleasure to meet your parents this week to tell them how pleased I am with you.

This week has been no exception as far as hard work is concerned especially in Maths where we’ve been consolidating our understanding of decimal numbers and how to round them to the nearest decimal place. After the break we’ll be multiplying and dividing numbers by 10, 100 and 1000.

In English we’re continuing to explore The Monsterology Handbook and gathering a wide range of interesting vocabulary on our working wall as well as developing our skills in writing multi-clause sentences using a range of conjunctions and vocabulary.

In RE we’ve completed our first topic on Ourselves and have learnt about influential people like Maximillian Kolbe and St Teresa and how their unique qualities have helped people.  Their example has inspired us to use our own unique qualities and talents to help and support people around us. We’ll be starting our second topic called Life Choices with an emphasis on commitment and service after half-term.

Finally in Science we’ve been learning about how there have been different theories about our solar system from the time of the Greeks to the modern day.

Our homework is here on our class page and I’m looking forward to reading your poems for our whole school poetry competition. Please make sure that you have your work in school for Monday 31st October.

Have a super half-term break and I look forward to seeing you back in class at the beginning of November.

Best wishes

Mrs Howard
