Class News (3.3.23)

It’s been another busy week in Year 5 and it’s lovely to see how well you’re all doing.  We’re enjoying our class book ‘There’s a Boy in the Girls’ Bathroom’ by Louis Sachar and I’m really pleased at how expressively you read the book as well as discuss the themes of it in our Guided Reading lessons.  This fitted in so well with our World Book Day this Thursday where we celebrated books and reading.  First of all, we watched Year 3 talk about their favourite books in their Class Assembly. In the afternoon we read our favourite books to Year 2 and they shared theirs with us as well.  Everyone enjoyed that so much that we’ll definitely have to go back and do more reading with them!  Our English homework is to write a book review of our favourite book or the one we’ve just read and these will go display in our classroom to inspire us to read them too.

In our English lessons we’re enjoying Polly Ho-Yen’s mystery and suspense story ‘The Boy in the Tower’ and have spent this week working in groups to write a script for our news reports which we’ll continue next week.  In Maths we’ve practised our short division with remainders as decimals instead of fractions as we did last week and in RE we’ve started our new topic on the Eucharist which is a memorial of Christ’s sacrifice on the Cross and how it provides hope for the future.

Many congratulations to our Writer and Stars of the Week. Have a good weekend and I’ll see you back in school on Monday. Take care and stay safe.

Best wishes

Mrs Howard
