Welcome back

Hello and welcome back to another creative and inspiring year at St. Joseph’s.  I hope you all had a restful holiday.

As I am teaching in the garden this term and will therefore not be able to show videos at present in Music lessons, I wanted to share some activities you may wish to do on the dull or wet weekends and evenings, which are likely to be coming our way as autumn progresses towards winter.

The BBC are continuing to publish weekly challenges related to music and I will share them with you as often as possible.  Please visit:

At the beginning of the summer, I took part in a project called “The Great Create” organised by 64 Million Artists.  It was similar to the January Challenge, which so many of you appeared to enjoy.  The activities were so inspiring that I wanted to share some with you.  Keep your eye on the Artsmark tab on the school website for details.

Here is the first one:

What is your word of the Summer? If you could choose one word to sum up your intentions, plans and hopes for the next couple of months– what would it be? You could create some word art, calligraphy, build your word using the things around you, or even take a photo that captures that word – it’s over to you.

As with The January Challenge, I will try to put my own response to the challenges on the website – I’m sure you will come up with much better ideas….

I wanted to INSPIRE as many people as possible to be creative and start making and creating things.

I find it easier to manage difficult times if I find time to make, draw or do something creative.  It is something I find very beneficial for my own wellbeing and hope that some of you will find it helps you too during unusually challenging times for us all.  Share your creations with family, friends, etc to help you stay connected with those around you.  We may not be allowed to be close to other people in a physical sense right now but we can connect in other ways.

Please send your creative responses to:

arts@stjosephs351.herts.sch.uk

if you wish to.  I may share some of  your responses on the school website.

Happy creating!

I look forward to seeing what you have made and hearing about how you have connected.
