Class News (11.11.22)

Well done on a good week’s work although I can’t believe how quickly the week has flown by!  One of our most memorable events this week was our St Joseph’s Remembrance Assembly today. Year 6 and Father John led the service and the choir sang beautifully.  We were very proud of our singers and the dancers who performed a very sensitive and solemn tribute in commemoration of the service that soldiers give in times of conflict.

In Maths we’ve been dividing numbers including decimals by 10, 100 and 1000 as well as learning about multiples, factors and prime numbers in readiness for our work on written methods for multiplication and division.

In English we’ve been continuing our poetry writing to support our work on Remembrance Day.  We’ve looked at the five-lined cinquain which has a special syllable pattern to each line and written our own cinquains based on John McCrae’s war poem ‘In Flanders Fields’.  Next week we’ll be using the book “Where the Poppies Now Grow” by Hilary Robinson and Martin Impey to write our own poems and share them with the rest of the class.

In Science our new topic is all about Forces and our first lesson focused on gravity which linked back to our work on Earth and Space.  We investigated the effect gravity has on objects and why they fall to the centre of the earth by dropping different sized marbles into a tray of flour and measuring the craters they made.

Have a lovely weekend and come back to school on Monday refreshed and ready for some more learning!

Best wishes

Mrs Howard
