At St. Joseph’s we live, love and learn by the example of Jesus

At St. Joseph’s we live, love and learn by the example of Jesus

Week 1

Welcome back to the Summer term in Year 3!  We hope you had a lovely Easter.

Our new RE topic is about Pentecost and how the gift of the Holy Spirit within us gives us energy and the power to live the way of Jesus. Year 3 took part in our beginning of term too and read and sang beautifully.

In English, we started looking at calligrams.  These are shape or concrete poems – they can be a whole poem, a phrase or even a single word.  The design or shape of the word(s) or letters help to explain its meaning. We performed a calligram about an apple in our groups and will be writing our own calligrams soon.

In Maths, we’ve been multiplying multiples of 10 with single digits and used place value grids to help us.  Then we moved onto finding fractions of sets of objects and solving word problems.

In Science, we investigated magnets and how north poles are attracted to the opposite south poles but are repelled by the same pole.

In Geography we discussed human features in Antarctica and what it would be like to visit it either as a researcher or as a tourist.

Next week sees us starting our new History topic and investigating what the ancient Egyptians believed in.  We launched the topic this week and travelled back in time to Ancient Egypt and discovered the importance of the river Nile to the ancient Egyptians.

Congratulations to our Stars of the week and to our Writer too.

We hope you have a lovely weekend and we look forward to seeing you next week.

Best wishes

Mrs Howard and Miss Cicero
