Equality Statement
The basic equality between all human beings has always been fundamental to Catholic belief and teaching.
St. Joseph’s Catholic Primary School acknowledges and celebrates diversity among pupils, staff, governors and visitors. Our Equality Policy, (including our Accessibility Plan) outlines the commitment of the staff and governors in promoting equality. This involves tackling the barriers which could lead to unequal outcomes so that there is equality of access and the diversity within the school community is welcomed and valued. We believe that equality at our school should permeate all aspects of school life and is the responsibility of every member of the school and wider community.
At St. Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, we firmly believe that every member of the school community should feel safe, secure, valued and of equal worth.
At St. Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, equality is a key principle for treating all people the same.
The school does not discriminate against anyone because of:

being married or in a civil partnership
being pregnant or on maternity leave

race including colour, nationality, ethnic or national origin
religion, belief or lack of religion/belief

sexual orientation

We promote the principles of fairness and justice for all through the education that we provide in our school.
Our Equality Objectives are as follows:
To promote spiritual, moral, social and cultural development through all appropriate curricular and extra-curricular opportunities. We aim to meet this objective with particular reference to issues of equality and diversity.
To reduce prejudice and increase understanding of equality through direct teaching across the curriculum.
To move beyond deterministic notions of fixed ability and to model teaching and learning behaviours which avoid labelling.
To promote cultural development and understanding through a rich range of experience, both in and beyond the school.
To eradicate prejudice related bullying in relation to the protected characteristics listed in the Equality Act 2010.
To tackle prejudice and promote understanding in relation to people with disabilities.
