Class News (19.5.23)

We’ve had a busy week celebrating International Week at St Joseph’s.  On Monday we shared information and artefacts about our country or one that best represents us with other classes.

Our class country was Spain and we learnt how to say ‘Good Morning’ and ‘Good Afternoon’ in Spanish for the register during the week.  We learnt many fascinating facts about the country – the geography, the population, popular foods and famous landmarks in the capital city, Madrid.

In our Art/D&T lesson this week we researched the elaborate costumes worn by the famous Matadors who take part in Spanish bullfights. We made our own Matador hats and wore them on Friday in our final assembly of the week.

In Maths we’ve been investigating the perimeter of composite rectilinear shapes by building our own shapes and calculating their perimeters.

In English we’ve been writing a newspaper article about a mysterious girl planting acorns and transforming her grim city into a beautiful place. We’ve used features we’d find in a newspaper as well as practising the punctuation and grammar we’ve been learning during Year 5

On Thursday we took part in our special Ascension Mass which was led by Father John and organised by Mrs Skelton and Year 6.  It was a lovely Mass where the readers told the story of Jesus’ ascension to heaven supported by the choir who sang beautifully.

In the afternoon we had our International Food celebration and our parents created a delicious spread of wonderful food from our varied cultures and traditions at St Joseph’s for us to sample in the school playground.  It was wonderful to share so many diverse foods and so kind of parents to support the school in such a generous way.

Finally, today we all came to school wearing either our national dress or the colours of our country and we celebrated all that we’d learned in a whole school assembly. Each class showed the hats and flags they had made during the week as well as interesting facts about their class country. It was a very memorable day!

Many congratulations to our Writer and Stars of the Week. Have a good weekend and we’ll see you back in school on Monday.  Take care and stay safe.

Best wishes

Mrs Howard
