Well done to everyone who took part in the Year 5 Class Assembly today!  Your performances were a delight to watch and I’m so impressed with how hard you worked.  It was a real team effort! 

The theme of our Assembly was based on the Catholic Social Teaching Principle of the Stewardship of Creation. We were inspired by our Science work on Living Things and their Habitats and our visit to Rye Meads RSPB Nature Reserve. We wanted to show how human beings, if they are not careful, can harm our planet and its wildlife and that can affect our lives too.  Edmund and Isabella D wrote a lovely piece of piano music for our opening and the rest of you presented your ideas through a combination of speech, drama, dance and singing.  

All the dancers (Cara, Davina, Esoesa, Ivy, Francesca, Niamh, Leona, Aoife, Isabella V and Ilenia) choreographed their own dance to a BBC Blue Planet video clip showing dolphins playing with plastic bags. It was very effective especially with the use of scarves as the bags.  Alex M was our stage manager and he was in charge of setting up the litter and starfish parts of the assembly as well as learning lines and the song.  Cara, Francesca and Leona wrote and prepared a very moving piece all about how human lives can be affected as well if we don't take care of our planet. Alexander and Christian played the starfish scene really well and got the message across that we can all make a difference to our environment and living things however small.  That was our message – we all played an important part in our Assembly. Everyone of you learnt the sign language and words for our song Tidal Wave and performed it so well.  I know that the audience loved it very much.

Well done to our writer and Stars of the Week too.  It’s always a difficult decision to make because you all work so hard and this week - once again - has been no exception.

Finally, thank you to the PTA for organising the Teddy Bears' Picnic - it was an event that everyone in Year 5 really enjoyed.
