At St. Joseph’s we live, love and learn by the example of Jesus

Year 6, Spring 2, Week 2

We’ve made it through the week in spite of maths being based on the dreaded unit of fractions! We’ve practised strategies for multiplying fractions and also for dividing a fraction by a whole number so now everyone can approach those with far more confidence.

In English, we’ve used the book ‘Cosmic’ by Frank Cottrell-Boyce as a basis for work on dialogue and have all really enjoyed reading the first few chapters.  Yesterday, in World Book Day, we used an interview with the author and his illustrator as a stimulus for creating our own characters – dogs with unusual jobs – and storyboards showing their adventures.  We have dogs who are doctors, lawyers, dancers, astronauts and even the prime minister.  I’m really looking forward to reading the finished stories as I’m sure they’ll be hilarious!

World Book Day was a great success in Year 6; as well as the storyboard work, we also managed to spend time with buddies reading and sharing stories and rhymes. Thank you to everyone who went to the trouble to create and wear costumes – they were great.  Also, well done to everyone who has made a book in a box – they are amazing!
