Class News, Spring 1, Week 2

We've only been back for 8 school days but already it's been incredibly busy!

In maths, we've completed our division unit - for now - and have started a unit on shape, revising classifying triangles and working out missing angles.

This week in English, we have used a poem (Willow) from the book 'The Lost Words' as a stimulus for reading and writing, looking at the vocabulary, use of rhyme, rhythm, personification and learning about assonance and consonance.  The children have researched a chosen bird and have begun writing their own acrostic poems using the grammar and features that they have identified in the poem.

We began our new geography topic, Our Changing World, by experimenting outside with earth, leaves and stones to investigate erosion.  We have followed that up today with looking at physical, chemical and biological weathering.

Year 6 thoroughly enjoyed onesie day today and, of course, always enjoy a cake sale!  Well done to Chaplaincy for organising and manning the cake sale and thank you for your support in sending in cakes, as well as money to buy them.
