Class News (31.3.23)

It’s the end of our Spring Term in Year 5 and the Easter holidays have arrived!  It’s been a busy week too.

In Maths we’ve been looking at fraction and decimal equivalents of different units of measure and then moved onto converting larger units of measure into smaller ones by multiplying by powers of 10.  We’ll be continuing with this after Easter too.  In English we’ve been analysing the personality of the main character in ‘Boy in the Tower’ and planning a story about him using flashbacks to help show how he has changed and developed during the course of the book. We’ve been continuing our Art from last week by experimenting with different materials to see what interesting patterns they can make (please see our photos). Finally, we shared the end of our History topic on the Vikings by investigating and practising Viking Art.  We learnt how to draw knots and inter-weaving patterns and some of our parents came and joined in the fun too.

This week we’ve shared many celebrations too.  The PTA kindly organised an Easter egg hunt for the whole school which everyone loved – especially the reward of a large Easter egg to take home! We’ve held our termly Talent Show as well. It was great fun and it was lovely to see so many performers.  Well done to everyone who took part!

Year 5 and the rest of Key Stage 2 visited St Joseph’s church at the beginning of the week and Father John talked about the Stations of the Cross and their meanings.  This was a good preparation for our Easter celebrations in school and our special Assemblies during the week.

Many congratulations to our Writer and Stars of the Week too.

I wish you all a happy and restful Easter time. Take care and stay safe.

Best wishes

Mrs Howard
