Feeling good week

Hi everyone,

Welcome to Feeling Good Week.  I thought some of you might like to create your own word art to celebrate the beginning of this fantastic week of creative, fun and reflective activities.  I made my own word art to give you a starting point.

Please scroll down for step-by-step instructions about how I made my picture.  Feel free to improve on them or do your word art in your own way.  The important thing is that you enjoy the process and relax while you’re drawing or colouring.

Step 1: Sketch your letter outlines onto a plain sheet of paper in pencil.

Step 2: When you are happy with your lettering, go round the letters with pen and then rub out the pencil lines.  (Tip: Make sure the ink is dry before you begin rubbing out or you can end up with a mess.)

Step 3: Choose 3 colours which blend nicely into each other.  For this, I chose red, orange and yellow.

Step 4: Gently shade the letters in, starting with the darkest colour at the bottom, the medium in the middle and the lightest at the top.  Don’t make clear lines between colours as you are going to blend them together.  Allow the colours to overlap but keep your colours very light at first.

Step 5: Taking your time, go over each colour in turn, making the colours gradually darker and overlapping them as you go.

This will take time so enjoy the process and don’t try to rush it.  Maybe put some music you enjoy in the background and try to think about nothing while you’re shading.

Step 6: When you are happy with your colours, you may wish to put an outline or shadow on your letters.  I put a red line of pen on the right and bottom edges of each letter just to finish them off.

Step 7: “Feel good” about what you have created and share your work with someone.

You could even do other word art if you have the time.  Maybe change your colour scheme to suit your new word.
