WEEK 6

This week's book for English has been Peter Puffin about a puffin who gets lost at sea and separated from his best friend. The children have learning about sentence structure, and have been writing sentences to describe the characters in the story and writing their predictions about what will happen next in the story.

In Maths we have been finding 1 more and 1 less. We have also been focusing on using comparative language to compare the value of objects in a group.

We have enjoyed a whole week of art activities, where we have explored making marks, lines and patterns in a variety of ways, using different art materials such as chalk, and pastels. This tied in very well with Black History month, where we had the children with African and Caribbean backgrounds wearing their traditional clothing. It was lovely to see some of their parents, also dressed in traditional clothing come around to our classroom and into assembly to talk about the traditional meaning of the colours and designs of their clothing. The theme for Black History Month this year is, 'Salute the Sisters'.The children have continued their discussions about the hopes and dreams of  Mae Jemison, the first Black female astronaut in space and  Aretha Franklin, the 'Queen of Soul'. The children have talked about their hopes and dreams for their future. They have showed an understanding that with consistent practice and faith their dreams can come true too.
