Week 1 (8.9.23)

Welcome to Year 3!  We’ve had a lovely week getting to know each other and launching our History topic called Stone Age to Iron Age.

We created a very, very large timeline which stretched across the infant playground going from 2023 to the Stone Age so we could understand that it was a very long time ago.  We picked out key events that occurred both before and after the birth of Christ.  I was very impressed with how everyone used their Maths skills to order the years correctly!

Next week we’ll be starting our Maths and English work in more detail.  In the former, we’re looking at place value with large numbers and in the latter we’re exploring a super book called ‘Tuesday’ by David Wiesner.  The text will give us many opportunities to explore the story through speaking, drama and writing activities.

In RE, we’ve learnt about class saint, St Jacinta Marto, and we’ll be looking at the topic of Homes and discussing what makes a house a home.

It’s been such a lovely first week so it was very difficult to choose Stars of the week.  Congratulations to those chosen and to our writer of the week too.  There’s plenty of time throughout the term for everyone to be chosen so keep doing your best.

Have a super weekend and we look forward to seeing you next week in class.

Best wishes
