Class News - Week 1

Welcome back to a new academic year. It has been lovely to see all the smiling faces come into school first thing on Monday. It was very evident that by Friday the reality hit us that we were back to another fun-filled year. I am really excited to see all the amazing work that we will be doing this year and I hope the children are too!

Please find this week’s homework on the Website under ‘Class News, Year 4, Homework’.

This week we have started all our topics. As you all know our RE topic for the next couple of weeks is People. So far, I have added everyone’s family trees to our classroom display. They look fantastic! Thank you to everyone for helping your child understand where they come from.

In History, we have been looking at Romans. We have started off by looking at Julius Caesar and his two attempted invasions of Britain. After finding out that he was unsuccessful, we moved on to Emperor Claudius. After a quick background information, we started off hot-seating Claudius. We asked different questions to this strong, fierce emperor. After we had some great arguments as to whether or not Claudius should or should not invade. Claudius will make up his mind next lesson! After we did some Roman mosaics and numerals!

What did you NOT do this summer? I did not go to the moon and meet aliens and sit and have a tea party! Yep! I know. Sounds strange and it is. We wrote our own stories in sustained writing based on something we didn’t do this summer. I can’t wait to read them! Some super and funny ideas came up.

We also started our PSHE learning all about me in our world. We looked at our friendships and how we were going to make better friendships this year. In our new French unit, we are recapping how to say ‘hello, what’s your name, how are you’ and the numbers to 10.

In Maths we have started looking at Place Value and how to regroup with thousands. We will carry on this next week.

In English we are going to start with riddles and move on to writing our own Myth.

It was great to see some of you at meet the teacher on Wednesday. If you have any questions, please dojo me or catch me at the door.
