Class News - Summer 1 - Week 5

HAPPY INTERNATIONAL WEEK!

This week, we have focused on different countries that we are from and countries that we are interested in. Year 4’s country was Iceland, as it went really well with our geography topic that we are learning about. We shared some really interesting facts with the school on Friday during the celebration assembly and celebrated all the work that we did.

Year 4 created some fantastic poems, which they came up with by themselves, using figurative language to share how beautiful the Northern Lights are. We also created a double-page spread all about Iceland after spending some time researching and speaking Icelandic. We also created our own Icelandic flag and found out the meaning of each colour.

This week in maths, we have finished the topic on fractions (but we will come back to them in a couple of weeks) and have moved on to long multiplication. We have been looking at distributive law and what it means! Well done to those children who have received their ‘Gone Green’ certificates for their heat maps on TTRS. I will be giving Mrs. O’Connor all the certificates for the children who have improved their accuracy and timing. Will it be you next week?

In English, we have started our persuasive writing topic. Parents, beware! You may be persuaded to let the children stay up later! Let’s see how the children put their persuasive devises to use.

In PSHE, we have been looking at the transition from childhood to adulthood. The children were very mature and asked some very good questions. We looked at how God made us and why He made us special.

Our new life topic is coming to an end. We have been looking at how the gifts of the Holy Spirit help us in our lives. Our final lesson will be a debate. You could start collecting ideas now for the question, ‘Do we have to ask the Holy Spirit to help us?"

This week’s electricity lesson was interesting. We have been looking at different types of switches and how they work. The children also created different types of switches for their own circuits.

Well done for this week, Year 4! Very proud teacher!
