    Every term is filled with so much that sometimes when we approach a holiday it feels like a blur. So now we pause and take a little look back.

  • Goldilocks and the three Bears

    Fri 15 Oct 2021

    English: This week our book was Goldilocks and the three Bears. We read the book several times. Our book had a very different ending. Baby Bear and Goldilocks became the best of friends and she often visited to have porridge with the Bears.We have also been concentrating on our letter formation.

    Maths: We looked at ordering the size of the bowls from biggest  to smallest.

    R.E: We focussed on learning our lines for our Prayer Service

    Phonics: We learnt the sounds ‘m, e and u’ and we went over tricky words ‘I, go, no, to, the, into.

    Stars of the week: Well done to Joy and Michael

    Thank you for your support in helping reception raise money for our class charity. It stands at £118.50. That is absolutely brilliant.

  • Proud to be…

    Thu 07 Oct 2021

    We are so excited to be celebrating Black History Month this October. We have a wonderful opportunity to be part of the national celebrations and events to honour the accomplishments of Black Britons in every area of endeavour throughout our history.

    This year there is a new campaign for Black History Month 2021 which invites Black and Brown people around the UK to share what they are Proud To Be – for a festival of celebration in October. And we would love our children and families here at St Joseph’s school to be a part of those celebrations.

    This year we would love to showcase all of what makes us ‘proud to be me’ and we can not wait to see what wonderful traditions, special items, clothing and jewellery you have to share with us as we create a spectacular museum here in school, where we can share and learn about Black History.

    The theme of ‘proud to be…’ is an excellent example of how proud our children should be of themselves and demonstrates that Black History is also British history belonging to us all. Here at St Joseph’s school this is just part of our ongoing work that’s built into our broad and rich curriculum that is inter-threaded throughout the year; for example when we teach WW1 and WW2 in year 6, the Romans in year 4, toys from around the world; both past and present in year 1, topics such as whose who in year 2 and many more opportunities that deepens our learning of Black History throughout the year.

    Please see the following link below to find out what we are celebrating as a nation and the launched theme of ‘PROUD TO BE’

  • St Francis of Assisi Feast day

    Mon 04 Oct 2021

    Today,Monday 4th October we celebrate with the 7 other schools in our Trust the feast day of St Francis of Assisi.

    This year it feels even more important to really celebrate and mark this special day as we are together. We will all watch an assembly compiled by all schools with prayers and special messages.

    For us at St Joseph’s our Chaplaincy team will present an assembly to each Key stage and share their understanding of St Francis and his  mission.

    Lord, make me an instrument of your peace:
    where there is hatred, let me sow love;
    where there is injury, pardon;
    where there is doubt, faith;
    where there is despair, hope;
    where there is darkness, light;
    where there is sadness, joy.

    O divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
    to be consoled as to console,
    to be understood as to understand,
    to be loved as to love.
    For it is in giving that we receive,
    it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
    and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
    Amen.

  • St Joseph’s Parliament

    Sun 03 Oct 2021

    This week our School parliament were privileged to meet Jasmine.She came to talk to us from UK parliament.The school members of parliament and cabinet members listened to Jasmine in our groups in the hall and all the other classes listened in class via Teams.We had the opportunity to ask questions and really find out what we wanted to.

    Jasmine shared the stories of Jess ,who didn’t know much,Dave who knew a little and Emma who knew it all. By the time we were finished we were all Emma’s .This knowledge and understanding will help us to do our jobs to the full this year.

    She told us about the House of Commons where the Prime minister sits and The house of Lords where the Queen sits.The House of Commons is where the rules are made.Jasmine asked us what we would change.Most of us said we would change the environment.

    There are over 300 people sitting in the house of commons. None of us guessed that right!We were asked to choose which subject was more important;Health,Education or housing.My team chose health over education and housing because if you don’t have health you can’t go to school and have an education.As for housing ,we were sure the homeless shelter would give you shelter.

    It was good to learn more about what I am a part of.Jasmine said she woud try and arrange for us to visit.
