Week 9 (10.11.23)

Today we held a Remembrance Assembly led by Father John and the Year 6 Chaplaincy team. It was a very moving Assembly that allowed us all time to reflect on this time of year and how we remember those who have fought in wars for their country and their home. We prayed for those who sadly have lost their lives in conflict and those who are coping with injuries they have received in the line of duty.

During the rest of the week, we’ve been very busy writing a class poem as well as planning and writing our own free verse poems based on Kit Wright’s ‘The Magic Box’.  We’ve really enjoyed supporting each other with our ideas and then reading the finished results.

In Maths, we’ve developed our mental addition skills by using ‘Think 10’ to help us add units to larger numbers. We’re enjoying using TTRS to help us revise multiplication facts and we’re now moving onto division facts for 10.  We’ll be practising 2x and 5x as well before moving on to our 3 and 4x tables.

We’ve just started our new Science topic on Light and our Geography topic on volcanoes where we’re exploring the question of why people live near them.

Not only is it Remembrance Sunday this Sunday, but it’s also the Hindu Festival of lights, Diwali. This morning we were lucky enough to watch an Assembly about the history of Diwali. It was an extremely interesting story and we really enjoyed it when the instructor played a very large Indian drum!

Congratulations to our Stars of the week and to our Writer too. Have a lovely weekend and we look forward to seeing you next week.

Best wishes
