Week 3
Our whole school assembly on Monday was taken from the Gospel of John (Ch15 v1-8) where Jesus talks about him being the vine and all of us being the branches and how we must care for each other and our planet. It was very fitting for Year 3 since this coming weekend many of us are having our first Communion.
The rest of the week has been busy as usual. The highlight for many of us was our first swimming lesson. Last week we were put into swimming groups and met our coaches and this week we started our proper lessons. Everyone enjoyed themselves and did really well!
In this week’s RE lessons, we focused on how the Church celebrates the Pentecost and prepared questions and a prayer for Father John’s visit to our class next week.
In English, we finished our calligrams about our pets or a pet we would like to have based on a poem called ‘My Yellow Dog’ by Sharon Creech. We’ve now started planning for a free verse poem based on where we live that includes features like calligrams, examples of onomatopoeia and extended noun phrases
In Maths, we’ve been comparing and ordering fractions – both fractions with different denominators and those with the same denominators.
In Science, we started our new topic on Plants. We examined the structure of lillies and then drew and labelled diagrams.
In History we investigated the gods and goddesses ancient Egyptians worshipped. We learned that they had both human and animal characteristics.
Congratulations to our Stars of the week and to our Writer too.
We hope you have a good Bank Holiday weekend and a lovely day on Saturday as you take part in your first Communion. We look forward to seeing you next week.
Best wishes
