Week 8
We’ve had another busy week settling into our final term in Year 3.
In Maths, we’ve continued with short multiplication and are now able to use the formal written method really well and next week we’ll be moving onto division. In English, we wrote recounts of our fantastic Life in Ancient Egypt day from last week as well as persuasive paragraphs about topics important to us and created posters persuading people to come to our Summer Fair later in June. Next week we’re starting a new narrative unit about Ted Hughes’ book, The Iron Man.
In Science, we observed last week’s investigation about how plants transport water around themselves. We recorded how the celery stems we had put into dyed water had transported water through their xylem up into their stems and we set up our next investigation into the lifecycle of plants.
We finished our History unit about what the Ancient Egyptians believed in and are continuing to observe what happens to the oranges we mummified last week. We’ve been investigating why ancient Egyptians mummified their dead. It was to preserve their bodies before they went to the afterlife and our oranges are starting to harden and change colour.
This week we began our new Geography topic all about settlements. We’re investigating the question: Are all settlements the same? and began the topic by investigating the different settlement types from villages to towns and cities.
We began our new RE unit on Reconciliation as well. We discussed how we have to examine our consciences in order to make the right choices. The Sacrament of Reconciliation is a celebration of God’s love, forgiveness of sin and being reconciled with God and each other.
We’ve been keeping fit this week by focusing on healthy eating and our Fit for 15 programme that really helps our learning. In fact, the whole term is dedicated to fitness which links with the European Football Championships and the Paris Olympics. This week all classes took part in an Inter house Olympic-style steeple course which was great fun to do! We have lots of other activities to look forward to over the coming weeks as well.
Congratulations to our Stars of the week and to our Writer too.
We hope you have a lovely weekend and look forward to seeing you next week.
Best wishes
