Spelling rules for the word endings: '-cial', and '-tial',

1. If the root word ends with a vowel, add ‘-cial’ e.g. official,

facial, crucial, special, artificial.

2. If the root word ends with a consonant, add ‘-tial’

e.g. essential, partial,confidential, residential.

There are some exceptions:

initial, financial (finance), commercial (commerce),

provincial (province).
