Week 6

We’ve had a busy final week in Year 3 before half-term because this week has been our Art week!  We’ve investigated art through abstract sculpture and looked at the work of artist Anthony Caro. We’ve tried different ways to join materials together to create a sculpture as well as looking at positive and negative spaces in a sculpture. We’ve sketched ideas in our art books and then constructed them with a partner and tried to make sure we used a variety of ways to join our pieces together.  It was fun as well as very interesting to see what we all created.

In Maths this week, we’ve started multiplying two digit numbers by ones using the distributive law.  In English, we read a new book called ‘Clean Up!’ by Nathan Byron and practised how to write rhetorical questions.

Last week in Science, we did a comparative test of different growing conditions for a potted pansy.  We put one pansy in a hot room with light and water, a second in the dark but with water, another in an airtight plastic bag with water, a fourth in the classroom without water and the final one in the classroom without soil but watered.  We kept a sixth pansy as a control in the classroom.  We have monitored the pansies this week and concluded that they needed both soil and water to grow healthily.

Congratulations to our Stars of the week and to our Writer too.

We hope you have a lovely half-term in the sunshine and come back refreshed for your final half-term in Year 3.

Best wishes

Mrs Howard and Miss Cicero
