Year 6, Autumn 1, Week 5
Another hard-working week and another busy one. On Wednesday we all went to Mass to celebrate the feast of St Francis of Assisi, patron of the Academy Trust. It was a beautiful Mass with representatives of Year 6 serving, reading and as part of the choir.
This week we have begun Black History Month with focusing on Celebrating Our Sisters. In Key Stage 2 assembly, we learnt about the politician Diane Abbott and her work over the last 40 years or so for racial equality. In Year 6, we focused on Baroness Doreen Lawrence and the work she has done over the years since the murder of her 18 year old son over 20 years ago. We've also listened to the music of Beverley Knight.
Today we had the our second Buddy Assembly, so Year 6 have now introduced and welcomed all of the new Reception children to the St Joseph's family. Once again, this was a lovely and heartfelt assembly where Year 6 enjoyed telling us about their buddies and showing the paintings they had created together. The singing was, again, wonderful and we are, of course, very proud of all of our Year 6 children who are showing themselves to be fantastic and responsible role models for their buddies and for the rest of the school.
