WINDRUSH CELEBRATIONS 2022
WINDRUSH 2022
We truly celebrated that national day of Windrush on 22nd June in style this year!!
We met one of our pillars of the community Patsy Spears, who joined us with our class assembly, she introduced our book of the day, 'Coming to England' and subsequently
'led pupil workshops and discussions throughout the school. We were able to learn so much from Patsy about her own personal experiences and how life is today in England compared to her native Caribbean country.
At lunch, we were treated to traditional Caribbean food, with rice and peas, chicken, mac and cheese as well as coconut jam sponge....delicious!!
Finally, our local musician Wade, came in to perform to our school. We learnt all about the origins of the steal pans and how they have all been handmade. Wade talked about life in Trinidad and Tobago and how we came to England too. He played some some for the children and parents, which was thoroughly loved by all!!
We can not wait to celebrate again next year and continue to remember, learn and value everything that our Caribbean community has done.
