At St. Joseph’s we live, love and learn by the example of Jesus

Week 10

We’ve had a busy week in Year 3! Yesterday we went to Mass at St Joseph’s Catholic Church and learnt about the martyr John Southworth. It was his Feast Day yesterday and Father John told us that he was martyred for his faith on 28th June 1654 and that his remains are in Westminster Cathedral.

In English, we’ve spent this week working hard on writing a character description of the Iron Man and then describing the first meeting with the Iron man and another character.  We’ve practised using paragraphs, expanded noun phrases, descriptive vocabulary as well as similes and metaphors.

In Maths, we’re practising our division skills by sharing, grouping and solving word problems before moving onto long division.

In Science, we investigated seed dispersal and learnt that seeds are dispersed in a variety of ways – by wind, explosion (of seeds), water and contact with other animals.  We made our own seed spinners, compared them to sycamore wings and then evaluated them to see if we could improve their flight.

In RE we’ve been learning about Buddhism and special places and in Geography we’ve been looking at OS maps and how land is used in the Waltham Cross area.

Today Years 1-5 divided into their Houses and created their Enterprise projects to sell at our Summer Fete tomorrow.  We had great fun designing and creating our jewellery and hope that they’ll sell really well for charity!

Congratulations to our Stars of the week and to our Writer too.

We hope you have a lovely weekend and look forward to seeing you next week.

Best wishes

Mrs Howard and Miss Cicero
