At St. Joseph’s we live, love and learn by the example of Jesus

At St. Joseph’s we live, love and learn by the example of Jesus

Week 2

This week our class reflection focused on St George’s Day. We discussed the life of St George and how, as a Roman soldier, he witnessed things he knew to be wrong so he spoke out against them. He even spoke out to the Roman Emperor and that led to his being put to death for his beliefs.  We reflected on how he was brave and courageous – not for fighting with a dragon as the legends tell us but for standing up for the truth. We agreed that our Mission this week was to remember the example he set and to try to stand up for the truth and the things we know to be right.

In this week’s RE lessons we remembered the story of Pentecost and how the Apostles made it their Mission to spread the Good News.

In English, we wrote our own calligrams about our favourite fruits and shared them with our partners.  We will be finishing our unit on poetry by planning calligrams about our pets or a pet we would like to have based on a poem called ‘My Yellow Dog’ by Sharon Creech.

In Maths, we’ve been solving fraction word problems, investigating fractions of shapes and will move onto comparing and ordering fractions next week.

In Science, we made our own compasses from needles and corks to help us in our investigation of the Earth’s magnetic field.

In Geography, we learnt about the Antarctic explorer Earnest Shackleton and in History we examined the timelines of ancient civilisations to understand when the ancient Egyptians lived.

Congratulations to our Stars of the week and to our Writer too.

We hope you have a lovely weekend and we look forward to seeing you next week.

Best wishes
