Year 6, Spring 1, Week 2
This week, Year 6 have very much enjoyed reading and analysing speeches from the book 'Talking History - 150 years of speakers and speeches'. It's a very colourful and informative book with a lot of background information as well as the speeches. Over the week, we've looked in detail at the speeches given by Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti, Nelson Mandela and Greta Thunberg. Our writing topic at the moment is persuasive speeches so we've looked at the different features of each speech and written persuasive reviews of the ones we were most impressed by.
Maths is now on to order of operations and algebra. In science, we have continued with our electricity topic; this week the children were making circuits and finding out what happens when you add more components to a circuit, measuring the brightness of the bulb using a luxmeter.
We finished the week - unusually on a Friday - with our class Mass. The theme was Christian unity as yesterday marked the beginning of Christian Unity Week. It was a beautiful Mass, so well done to Year 6 and it was lovely to welcome parents to join us in spite of the change of day.
