Class News - A2 Week 1
What a jam-packed first week back! I hope that you all enjoyed your week off to recover and recuperate ready for this busy but fun half term coming up!
We started the week off by starting our new English and Maths topics. We will be looking at poetry for the next two weeks in English. We started off by just getting familiar with the poem by performing and expressing how characters would say things. We then moved on to writing adjectives to describe these characters, as we don’t get told how they feel or what their appearance is like. We ended the week with ‘talk for writing’. We created our own story map and added actions to help us recall the poem without needing the words. I will record this for you to see next week.
In Maths, we’re on to, what seems to be, everyone’s favourite... column method! We have been looking at adding by using the column method and regrouping. We will continue to look at this next week with subtraction and regrouping.
In Topic, we are nearly at the end of the Romans. We answered the question this week, "How were the Romans able to successfully keep control of a growing empire?" We started off by researching using books, then came together for a game of tug-of-war. We listened to each point and then decided which reasons were the most important and used a video clip to confirm this. As a class, we decided which points were the most important but weren’t included in the video, so we wrote a letter to the BBC producer and explained to them what they should have included and why.
In PSHE, we looked at why it is important that we don’t make assumptions. We looked at differences and why we should celebrate them.
Our new RE topic is ‘Called'. We have written letters to Mrs. O’Connor explaining what it means to be called or chosen to be part of a club and the responsibilities that these might entail. Our next lesson was about the story of Samuel choosing David as the King, which we retold in our own words. Next week, we will start to look at confirmation and what it means to be called.
Please remember to bring in on Monday the Remembrance poem as we will be using these on Monday!
Well done to the stars of the week:
