Autumn 1, Week 2, Friday 12th September 2025

Our first full week back at school this academic year and what a busy one it has been!

In English, we are using the book Night of the Gargoyles to inspire writing.  This week, we discussed our expectations from looking at the cover, did freeze frames as gargoyles and worked on descriptive sentences using expanded noun phrases and relative clauses.

As part of our oracy, we practised our linguistic skills and tried to improve our vocabulary using description games.  The children then produced their own description cards to challenge others.

We are working on place value of numbers with up to 8 places at the moment and practised creating and reading 6 and 7 digit numbers.

As well as all of the hard work Year 6 have done this week, we have also run house captain elections and found time to play with and get to know buddies in Reception - more of that as we get towards our buddy assemblies.  Well done to all of Year 6 for writing and presenting thoughtful speeches to their houses but an extra well done to our new house captains and vice captains:

Matthew:  Sofia and Maya

Mark:  Lena and Aisha

Luke:  Acacia and Christy

John:  Adele and Ladiela

I am sure that they will all be excellent role models and leaders for their houses and will be well supported by the rest of Year 6.
