An enormous watermelon…..pancakes and world book day!
Just another fun packed week in Nursery!
We began our week continuing with our traditional tales topic and reading ‘The Enormous Watermelon’ it’s a spin off from the traditional tale ‘The enormous Turnip’ which we read last week. We discussed the similarities and differences between both stories and enjoyed making up our own by choosing other characters from traditional tales we had read to be part of the story.
As part of ‘Shrove Tuesday’, Nursery learnt about why Shrove Tuesday can be referred to as Pancake Day and why we might eat pancakes on this day in preparation for Ash Wednesday and the beginning of Lent. As you will have seen on Dojo, Nursery also enjoyed a pancake race, we practiced our fine motor skills by cutting out pancakes and making funny fruit faces and practiced their pancake flipping skills in class. But most of all the children enjoyed eating their pancakes at snack time. As part of our Ash Wednesday whole school service, the Nursery children received their ashes. In class we talked about receiving the ashes and we are starting to think about the time of Lent. Next week in class we will be making our Lenten promises and displaying them on our reflection table.
On Thursday we also celebrated ‘World Book Day! We had a fantastic day! We started off the day with a wonderful book day assembly celebrating the wonders of books and the enjoyment of reading! Afterwards Year 3 visited our class , we read Handa’s surprise and listened to all of those delicious fruits being taken by the animals. We then made our own delicious fruit salad . Nursery were very good at chopping up bananas, strawberries, grapes, mango and oranges. They enjoyed eating their fruit salad with the year 3 children while sharing books together.
We have been so busy but we have learnt a new sound ‘p’ this week as part of our phase 2 phonics and we have been continuing to practice writing our names. Through rhymes and songs we continue to learn and practice our numbers and number formation. We have also enjoyed playing in our outdoor area with the beautiful sunshine we have had this week.
congratulations to our stars of the week Maisa and Ava
Have a wonderful weekend!
