Week 8
Thank you for a great first half of the Autumn Term Year 5! You deserve a well-earned rest after all your hard work. It was a pleasure to meet your parents this week to tell them how pleased I am with you.
This week has been no exception as far as hard work is concerned especially in Maths, where we’ve been multiplying by 10, 100 and 1000. After half term, we will be dividing by 10, 100 and 1000 before moving onto multiples, factors and prime numbers.
In English, we’re continuing to explore our lovely class book, The Cloud Tea Monkeys by Mal Peet, and have written a setting description using a range of fronted adverbials to help us develop our skills in writing multi-clause sentences. In addition, we’ve been examining the personality and motivation of the main character as well as putting across our point of view over a decision they have to make.
In RE we’ve continued with our Life Choices topic and discussed how you can show commitment and service throughout life. Following last week’s re-enactment of a wedding ceremony with Father John, we’ve discussed the significance of the wedding rings and the promises made during the service which show commitment and fidelity.
I’ve been so impressed with the homework projects that have been completed for our Science topic on Earth and Space and the knowledge that everyone has acquired about our solar system throughout the term.
Throughput the week, the whole school has been celebrating Black History and we have looked at the life of the first black musician, John Blanke, who was a trumpeter for King Henry VII and King Henry VIII. We created fact files and drew trumpets with tabards showing colours that are meaningful to us. In our Black History Assembly, we sang a song to the school about pavans and pageantry that linked to our History topic on the Tudors as well as to John Blanke. It’s been Art week too, and we’ve been exploring self-portraits using multi-media resources and the results have been excellent!
Congratulations to our writer and stars of the week. Have a super half-term break and I look forward to seeing you back in class at the beginning of November.
