Week 9
Welcome back to the second half of our Autumn term in Year 5! It’s been a busy and productive week.
In Maths this week we’ve been multiplying and dividing numbers including decimals by 10, 100 and 1000 and I’m really impressed with how well you’re getting to grips with using your place value grids to help you move digits to the left to multiply. Next week we’ll be revising how to divide and move digits to the right before we move onto multiples, factors and prime numbers in readiness for our work on written methods for multiplication and division.
In English we wrote our own stories for the BBC 500 word competition We could choose our storyline and characters and write an original story of no more than 500 words. In our English lessons, we’ve been finishing our work on ‘Cloud Tea Monkeys’ by writing a character description of the main character and next week we’ll be looking at the structure of five-lined cinquains and writing our own poems to support our work on Remembrance Day.
We finished our History unit on The Tudors this week by looking at inventories to learn how ordinary Tudor people lived and have started our new Geography unit on The Alps.
A lovely highlight of the week was our whole school visit to our Forest School in celebration of the 5th November. We made our own ‘rockets’ out of marshmallows and listened to the story of the Gunpowder plot around the campfire.
Have a great weekend and come back to school on Monday refreshed and ready for some more learning!
Best wishes
Mrs Howard
