Week 1
Welcome to Year 5! We’ve had a lovely three days getting to know each other and our class saint, Josephine Bakhita.
Next week, we’ll be starting our Maths and English work in more detail. In the former, we’re looking at place value with numbers up to 1 million and in the latter we’re exploring two super books called ‘The World of the Unknown: Monsters’ by Carey Miller and ‘The Book of Mythical Beasts and Magical Creatures’ by Stephen Krensky. We’ll be using ideas from the two books to write a non-chronological report based on an invented monster or creature.
In RE, we’ll looking at the Topic of Ourselves and understanding that our uniqueness is central to our wellbeing.
In Science, we’ll be learning about the movement of the Earth as it orbits the Sun and its relationship to the moon. I hope you get a chance to have a look at the NASA website (www.nasa.gov) to see pictures of the Earth and solar system. It’s a very exciting time to learn about Space.
It’s been such a lovely few days so it was very difficult to choose Stars of the week. Congratulations to those chosen and to our writer of the week too. There’s plenty of time throughout the term for everyone to be chosen so keep doing your best.
Have a super weekend and I look forward to seeing you next week in class.
Best wishes
Mrs Howard
