At St. Joseph’s we live, love and learn by the example of Jesus

At St. Joseph’s we live, love and learn by the example of Jesus

13th September 2024

Friday again and the end of our first full week in Year 1!

Everyone is doing so well and it has been quite a seamless transition into our new routines and learning.

In English this week we had the story of Jasper's Beanstalk. We were writing captions and labels and the children produced some wonderful drawings of sunflowers for which they were able to identify and write their own labels. I have been very impressed with their phonic knowledge and how they have been able to use it within their writing. Well done Year 1!

In maths this week, we were reinforcing our knowledge of positional language and beginning to use the language of turning and direction. Quarter turns were initially quite tricky but by the end of the week we were all demonstrating quarter turns easily!

In RE we began our new topic Creation and Covenant which has a focus on the Creation story in Genesis. We began by drawing wonderful pictures of all the wonderful things God has made.

In history we have started our class timeline, which we will add more to next week and in science we began our materials topic, brainstorming all the types of materials that we know and their properties.

Our PE days have now been decided as Wednesdays and Thursdays so please do ensure PE kit is in and stays in until half term.

Thank you so much.

Have a wonderful weekend,

Mrs Carpineta and Mrs Nicolini.
