A runaway gingerbread and a pancake…

We continued our ‘traditional tales’ topic and read a spin on last week’s text, ‘The runaway pancake’. Nursery class compared and contrasted both stories how they were both similar and different. They enjoyed making up their own stories and choosing different characters to be in them.

As part of our Understanding the World curriculum, Nursery had the chance to make their own boats for their gingerbread to safely cross the river. They used boxes, cardboard, trays, straws all sorts of recycling materials to make them and test them out in our water tray.
We also made our own gingerbread! The children enjoyed weighing out the ingredients, melting the butter, feeling the textures of the sugar and flour and the smell of ground cinnamon. Each child was given their own piece of dough to roll and explore and used gingerbread shape cutters. We also explored  ginger in its natural form and learnt how it grows. The children preferred the smell of this ginger than the ground ginger. Today we enjoyed a gingerbread biscuit as an end of half term treat 😋.

In R.E we have been thinking about how Jesus loves us and to live our lives as Jesus did. We made our own hearts to show how we are loved and how we love and are kind to others.

We continued with our weekly phonics - the children are fantastic at recognising the sounds we have learnt and are really trying hard to write them. We have been practicing our names and letter formation - if you had time over the half term this would be something Nursery could practice.

In maths we have been subitising which is being able to look at a small amount and know how many without counting. We practiced this with gingerbread’s an matched them to numerals. The children are really coming on with their numbers. We also continue with our rhyme and counting songs.

Well done to our stars of the week Tony and Dion.

Next week is half term - we wish you all a safe and peaceful week 😊

Thank you for your continued support.
