WEEK 8
This week has been really busy and quite full on for us all. It was a genuine pleasure to see and meet you all on Wednesday to discuss your child's successes this term so far.
In English this week, we have been wrapping up the final piece of our current unit. The students have demonstrated considerable creativity and understanding of the themes we have explored. I will look forward to recording and adding their final products to the website, showcasing their hard work and achievements. This is always an exciting moment for both the children and their families, and I can't wait to share the outcomes.
In Science this week, our focus has been on the teeth of different animals. We explored the distinctions between herbivores, carnivores, and omnivores through a hands-on investigation. The children examined model skeletal bones of various animals, identifying them based on their dentition. Some truly intriguing ideas emerged from this activity, along with captivating questions such as, "Why do animals have lots of teeth, whereas some animals have very few?" These discussions foster critical thinking and curiosity about the natural world.
During our History lessons, we continued our exploration of children throughout the ages. Our inquiry delved into children's leisure activities over time, observing how these have evolved and the new activities that have emerged. Notably, we discussed the remarkable contributions of Lord Shaftesbury and his efforts to improve the lives of children. His legacy serves as a valuable case study in understanding the impact on young lives.
In RE, we have continued our topic, "Called." This week, we reflected on how we are called as apostles and the ways in which we can follow Jesus. Through drama, the children were able to enact scenarios that illustrate this calling. Additionally, we discussed the significance of confirmation, delving into what it means to be called by God. This exploration not only deepens their understanding of faith but also encourages them to contemplate their own spiritual journeys.
This week, we proudly celebrated Black History Week, an occasion dedicated to recognising and honouring the significant contributions of individuals from black communities across the UK.
During our activities, we focused on the remarkable achievements of figures such as Eunice Olumide and Dennis Morris. Their stories serve as powerful reminders of resilience and creativity, inspiring our children to reflect deeply on their own identities and aspirations. In a poignant clip, the message resounded: “Dream big. Stand up for yourselves, even if others do not believe in you; it is enough to believe in yourself.” This encouraging sentiment struck a chord with the children, fostering a spirit of self-empowerment.
Overall, this week has beena great week and I am excited to see how the children continue to grow and develop in the upcoming weeks.
Have a lovely half term break!
