Spring 2, Week 2 - Friday 7th March
What a busy week this has been with lots of events going on, as well as plenty of hard work! Year 6 have completed their algebra topic in maths and although many have found it quite stretching, there have definitely been some great light bulb moments during the week. In English, we've continued to work on dialogue, this time using role play to generate ideas before writing a dialogue that moves the action on or tells the reader something about the character.
Outside of the classroom though, plenty was going on. Tuesday was Shrove Tuesday - the last day before Lent and traditionally a time for Christians to use up all the rich food in their cupboards before a time of fasting and abstinence so everyone had a pancake to eat but we also had some great pancake races on the playground!
Wednesday was Ash Wednesday - the beginning of Lent - so we had our traditional Ash Wednesday service led by Father John and the Chaplaincy team who read and also helped Father John to distribute the ashes to the whole school.
Thursday was World Book Day, so a day for celebrating all things book related throughout the school. There were some very colourful outfits to be seen and lots of synonyms used for the different colours. Every class had the chance to cook something book related - Year 6 cooked some flapjacks related to the book 'The Giraffe, The Pelly and Me'. We also had time with buddies to share stories and every teacher visited a different class from their own to share a favourite story.
What a week - very busy but very enjoyable and the time just flew!
