Week 10
Well done on a good week’s work although I can’t believe how quickly the week has flown by! One of our most memorable events this week was our St Joseph’s Remembrance Assembly on Monday. Year 6 and Father John led the service and the choir sang beautifully. Another event was our swimming lesson on Tuesday. Everyone is trying really hard with practising their swimming strokes and making great progress.
In Maths, we’ve been dividing numbers including decimals by 10, 100 and 1000 and next week we’ll be looking at multiples, factors and prime numbers.
In English, we’ve been continuing our poetry writing to support our work on Remembrance Day. We’ve looked at the five-lined cinquain which has a special syllable pattern to each line and written our own cinquains based on John McCrae’s war poem ‘In Flanders Fields’. Next week we’ll be using the book “Where the Poppies Now Grow” by Hilary Robinson and Martin Impey to write our own poems and share them with the rest of the class.
In our Earth and Space unit for we investigated why some craters on the moon are larger than others and in our D&T lesson this week we researched how pop-up books are made and began planning our own with our partner. In our new Geography unit we used atlases to help us locate where the Alps are in Europe.
Today we visited the Forest School with piles of leaves to create wintering habitat areas for the wildlife. It was great fun.
Many congratulations to our writer and stars of the week. Have a lovely weekend!
Best wishes
Mrs Howard
