Week 4
Well done Year 5 for another lovely week!
In Maths we’ve continued to round numbers to the nearest 10, 100, 1000, 10,000 and 100,000 and we’ve started to investigate negative numbers and solve word problems involving temperatures.
In English we’ve been creating adverbial phrases to describe merfolk and fauns as well as how to use parenthesis (brackets) to help develop our sentence writing. We’re also planning our own mythical creature or monster so that we can write a non-chronological report on it next week.
We’ve continued with our study of Henry VIII and the reasons behind why he married six times and in RE we’ve been discussing how special individuals have used their unique qualities in an exceptional way to help others even when it has not been easy to do so; such as our class saint, Saint Josephine Bakhita, and Saint Maximilian Kolbe, who sacrificed his own life to save another’s in Auschwitz concentration camp during World War 2.
Tuesday was a very special day for us all at St Joseph’s – it was our Retreat Day. We spent the day with Year 1 supporting them in some lovely activities - from creating stained glass windows using card to baking some delicious biscuits!
Our busy week finished with a lovely Buddy Assembly where Year 6 presented their buddies from Reception to the rest of the class. They told us all about their buddies and pledged to support them throughout this year.
Many congratulations to our writer and stars of the week. I hope you have a lovely weekend and I look forward to seeing you next week. Take care.
Best wishes
Mrs Howard
