Week 10

Today we celebrated World Poetry Day in Year 5!  We had a very entertaining assembly led by the poet, Neal Zetter. He encouraged us to join in as he recited many of his poems and, later in the morning, he worked with us to write some verses in a similar style to his which we’ve recorded.

In our English lesson we carried on looking at poetry by exploring a rap poem by Karl Nova called ‘Poetry?’  We enjoyed it so much that we recorded ourselves reciting the poem with actions.  For the rest of the week in English we’ve been developing our own suspense stories and have written a blurb for them.

In Maths this week we’ve concentrated on multiplying fractions less then and greater than 1.  In RE we’ve been looking at the importance of the Last supper and compared da Vinci’s representation of it with Mark and Luke’s writings in the Bible. In addition, we’ve written an account of the Easter story.  In Geography we’ve investigated the impact of humans on the oceans of the world and how our actions can affect both the seas and the wildlife within them. In Science we carried out an investigation to see which materials are soluble and which are insoluble and whether the changes we saw can be reversed or not.

This week was a very special week for St Joseph’s and the parish community as it was the Feast of St Joseph on Wednesday. We celebrated the day with a special Mass at St Joseph’s church and then had ice creams at the end of the day.

Many congratulations to our Stars and Writer of the Week. Have a lovely weekend and a good rest. Take care and stay safe.

Best wishes

Mrs Howard
